With the summer holidays approaching, it is time for me to think about how I am going to keep my children occupied during the long sunny days, and prevent them from sliding away from the knowledge they gained during the school year. As a parent, I think it is my responsibility to provide my children with the materials they need to keep up-to- speed and learn not only from books, but also from the environment around them.

Delicious Potatoes with Sour Cream and a Giveaway
I enjoy cooking outdoors during the summer because it is fun and allows me to cook leisurely while enjoying the fresh air, sunshine and green space. I cook on the barbecue, and grill a lot of meat, fish, vegetables and fruits. Most of our favourite dishes on the barbecue are savoury. Usually while barbecuing meat, I also put in potatoes wrapped in foil, garlic, onions and peppers. This twist on preparing twice baked potatoes with Gay Lea sour cream is fast and makes a barbecue meal complete.

Ideas On Things To Do In The Summer and Creative Club Inc.
Recently my children and I went to check out the Creative Club Inc. that was started by Rob Gray, also known as The Lego Man. The Creative Club Inc. is an educational company committed to engage, challenge and empower participants through creative play. Rob realized he could make a major impact to children by helping them understand math through LEGO or watch a shy child become social by being part of LEGO building projects and more. His goal was to make learning come alive.

Snacking on Chex Brittles During Summer Activities
I am excited to enjoy the summer sunshine doing simple things. Either sitting in the backyard, enjoying a book, making barbecue meals, watching the children play, or going on long drives and road trips are wonderful ways to make memories and enjoy the sunshine. While doing all these things everyone in my family look for yummy snacks to munch on, so I made these Chex Brittles with Chex Cereal.

Crocs For My Little Crocs
With so many activities to do in the summer and places to explore, having proper footwear is very important. There are many choices of stylish, comfortable crocs for children that it becomes hard to choose just one. Both my children like wearing their lightweight, slip resistant, functional Crocs™ summer shoes.

Exploring South America at Michaels Passport to Imagination
Since I took the Michaels unplugged summer pact, we have been seriously committing time to do crafts. My daughter has been participating in the Michaels Passport to Imagination summer craft program whenever time permitted. She really enjoys the activities that are instructed by a Michaels staff during the sessions, in which children learn about different icons and landmarks in the seven continents. My daughter enjoys being able to use different craft medium and material that are provided to do the activities.

Summer Reading Adventures with DK Readers
I have always found DK Readers to be very useful in encouraging and teaching my children to read in English. I like that the DK Readers have stunning photographs and illustrations, which make the context in the books interesting. We enjoy the engaging, age appropriate stories and information found in these books. The DK Readers are separated into five different levels that enable children to progress in their reading skills.

Our Stay at Santa's Whispering Pines Campground Cabin
When we went to Santa's Village, we decided to stay over one night at Santa's Whispering Pines Campground so we didn't have to drive back on the same day. This being our first overnight camping trip with the kids, we were very excited. Santa's Whispering Pines Campground has been voted to be the Best Campground in Muskoka for the last two years, so we knew we were going to be in good hands. Except for a few mosquito bites, thank God everything was smooth and we loved our experience.

Making Our Own Pencil and Pen Holders
I love doing crafts with my kids, but sometimes technology can get in the way of having fun and doing our crafts. So I have signed the Michaels unplugged summer pact and made a promise to create time for what's important by taking a couple of hours a day to do crafts with my children.
We are looking forward to participate in the Michaels Passport to Imagination 7-week summer craft program, whenever we get a chance to go to the store. To start off, we made these pencil and pen holders using recyclable material.

For All Ice Cream Lovers The First Magnum Pleasure Store In North America
We got the pleasure of making our own customized Magnum bar at the first Magnum Pleasure Store in North America. The Magnum Experience pop-up-stores have been around the globe in countries such as London, Amsterdam, Paris, Istanbul and more. I am glad they popped up closer to home. This unique experience of customizing our own ice cream bar is exquisite and exciting for children and adults. My children and we enjoyed watching the process of our ice cream bar being customized with the topping we chose.
Rolling Down A Hill Inside Aqua OGO At Horseshoe Resort
OGO is a thrilling, adventurous, soaking-wet water ride that will be enjoyed by everyone. It is a ball filled with water into which we can go inside and roll down a hill. Horseshoe Resort is the only place in Canada that we can experience the fun of OGO, which is made and designed in New Zealand.
We can ride the Aqua OGO with a maximum of 3 riders at one time and up to three times per pass. The hill we go tubing in the winter at Horseshoe Resort is transformed into an area that we can roll down the OGO in the summer.
