Quilling Technique Husking

quilling
Quilling is a fun hobby to do, I have used this paper craft method to do a lot of home decor and combined it with canvas painting. I also like using different quilling techniques to create intricate designs and gluing it on to handmade cards. This technique of husking can be used for large, unusual shapes, and can be done with or without a collar. Looping of the quilling paper around pins inserted into a cork, foam, or styrofoam board helps create the shapes we want.

Quilled Birthday Card Cupcake with a Candle: Project from Pretty Quilled Cards book

Quilling, also known as paper filigree is an addictive fun craft that I started a few years ago, and have enjoyed making cards, frames, used it in decorating notebooks, and more. Most of the time, when I do quilling I quill the paper into circle shapes and then make different shapes using my fingers.

Quilled card

Quilling is so much fun and we can make lots of creative things.  I made this card to give as a birthday card.

I used the tools and paper from here.

To make this flower, I first made...
8 teardrop shaped purple shapes
1 orange tight circle
1 eye shape with green for the leaf
and quilled half the paper to a loose circle for the stem

Positioned it, where I wanted then lightly glued and placed it on the card.

Paper quilling or paper filigree

I am very happy about my first quilling project :) It was easier than I thought because of the clear instructions from Quilled creations. Everything I need was in the basic kit, which made the project fun. All I needed was glue, tweezer and a toothpick.

This basic kit includes 1 slotted quilling tool, circle sizer ruler, 130 quilling paper strips, 2 cards, 2 envelopes and 2 tags. This kit is all you need if you want to learn the skills. The kit includes a handy guide that teaches all the techniques and methods.
Paper quilling or paper filigree is made simple and straightforward with Quilled creations' easy instructions and tools that make it so much fun. I had hours of fun even my children were excited and tried it out.

Quilled creations also has individual kits to make special cards and frames i.e. the Iris kit and love birds. The kits include step-by-step instructions, quilling paper, circle cut-out tri-fold card and envelope.
If you are interested in learning or finding the materials to learn this craft check out the Quilled creation website. Once you make one, you will know that it is not hard as it looks: even for those of us who have trouble handling delicate paper and designing :)
