Healthy School and After-School Snacks and Giveaway

I always plan on what healthy school snacks I can prepare at home, and keep it ready for my children to enjoy after school. I also try to make sure the snacks they have are nutritious. Although, I love to make a different snack everyday, our on-the-go schedules don't give me time for this. On these days, I love the convenience of having delicious Hans Dairy snacks in the fridge. The Indian style rice pudding, lassi, and yogurt from Hans Dairy is one of our favourites; we can enjoy as is or by adding fresh fruits and berries.

The flavourful Hans Dairy fruit smoothies are another favourite. It is a refreshing drink to take to school, enjoy after school or grab-and-go for practices. Our children love taking the smoothies to school because they can drink the amount they want, and close the containers back and keep it to enjoy later. I love that the containers are plastic, convenient to take with, and easy to pack for school. I find the smoothies are a nutritious, healthy choice and contributes towards our children's daily intake of calcium. Hans Dairy Smoothies include natural ingredients, and have the Foodland Ontario symbol, meaning all the ingredients, such as the milk and fruit are sourced locally in Ontario.

Hans Dairy products such as smoothies, lassies, rice pudding, whipped butter, and yogurt are made in their traditional and time honoured small-scale operation. This family business, now run by two sisters are passionate to continue the legacy their parents begun. Hans Dairy is the first company to launch Dahi, an Indian style yogurt in Canada. Ever since we tasted their products, we always pick up Hans Dairy products when grocery shopping. We appreciate their 100% natural philosophy, and love that we can recognize every ingredient in the products. All Hans Dairy products are free of any artificial sugars, flavourings, colourings, and preservatives.

I use a lot of yogurt when cooking, baking, and sometimes in salads by swapping yogurt for mayonnaise, for example in this egg and potato salad.

This nutritious brownie recipe includes yogurt. It is perfect to send to school, enjoy after school or have for dessert. Children will love giving a hand to prepare these brownies, which has a texture similar to cake.

You will need...
1/2 cup butter melted
3/4 cup sugar
2 eggs
1 tsp vanilla optional
1/3 cup cocoa powder
3/4 cup flour
1/4 tsp salt
1/4 tsp baking powder
1/2 cup Hans Dairy yogurt

Prepare an 8" square baking pan by coating with cooking spray or butter and lightly flour it.

In a medium bowl, mix the butter, sugar, eggs, and vanilla until well blended. In another bowl, combine cocoa, flour, salt, and baking powder. Add the flour mixture to the butter mixture and stir. Add the yogurt and stir until just combined do not over mix.

Pour the batter into the prepared pan. Bake in a 350F preheated oven for 25 to 30 minutes until a skewer placed in the center comes out clean. Cool completely in the pan before cutting and serving.
