Lavender plants: How to make DIY sachets and Shortbread Cookies

lavender field
Over the past years, we have visited a couple of lavender farms in Ontario, which are costly and crowded especially when lavender plants are in full bloom. Since we didn't travel last summer, we had time to pay attention to the lavender plants we planted a couple of summers ago. We harvested the flowers, bundled, and dried it to make sachets and to make different desserts.

Lighten Up With Canadian Turkey!

canadian turkey
You already know that Canadian turkey tastes delicious, but did you know it's a nutritional powerhouse? Turkey is considered a quality protein with about 30 grams of protein in every 100 gram serving – it's lean and nutrient-rich, too. This means that it has a lot of nutrients per calorie. Turkey is a lighter choice compared to some other holiday meats, for example, prime rib. With all the delicious recipes available, your family won't even realize you're making healthier choices!

When Ontario peaches are in season, my family and I like to enjoy their fresh, sweet, and sometimes tangy taste. I like to use fruits mostly when they are in season for desserts and salads. Peaches are one of those delicious stone fruits I like to use when I make fruit crumbles. This warm, cold, sweet, tangy, and crunchy dessert goes well with ice cream.

Sockeye Salmon Fish Cakes

This is a sponsored post written by me on behalf of Loblaws Companies Inc.. All opinions are 100% mine.
sockeye salmon
My family and I enjoy a variety of seafood items because of their nutritional benefits and flavour. My usual sockeye salmon recipes involve baking it, making a curry with gravy, or incorporating it into short-eats. During our trip last year to Saint Andrews, New Brunswick, we enjoyed delicious fish cakes by the sea and I wanted to replicate making them at home. I used fresh, in-season salmon for this recipe. I like the firm texture and the sweet flavour of this fish.

Spending a Night In With Netflix munching on Vegetable Fritters

On a cold winter evening, spending a night in with Netflix is easy! During our routine of Netflix nights, bundling up with blankets on the couch with pjs, and munching on homemade goodies is how we spend our night in. Our favourite go to shows on Netflix are classics, family movies, and new Netflix original shows.

Easy to make delicious Madeleines

This Madeleine recipe is one of my favourites. I make it often because it is made with a few ingredients and I can make the mixture ahead of time and leave it in the fridge until I am ready to bake. These are perfect snacks to cozy up during cool evenings with a cup of coffee or warm milk. These yummy Madeleines would also be wonderful to enjoy during the Thanksgiving weekend when families get together.

Carrot Cottage Cheese Fritters and a Giveaway

As the weather gets warmer, my husband and I try to shed a few pounds we gained in the winter :) I usually swap for healthier, fresh and local ingredients when cooking meals for my family during the warm months, as it is readily and easily available. I try to get locally grown vegetables and fruits, as well as try to grow our own in our garden. I also find during warmer weather, my family and I tend to eat small, but healthier portions of food throughout the day instead of heavy meals.

Feel The Tropics As You Enjoy Baking and Eating This Aloha Bread

April showers are ending and May-flowers are blooming, which excites my family and I, as we have been waiting for the weather to get warmer and soak up some sunshine and enjoy the warm outdoors. Many of you like us are probably waiting for the upcoming celebrations, the long weekend and the school holidays for the summer, which will be here before we know it :) Since I am missing the warmth of the sunshine with the cold rain and wind we are having these days, I decided my family and I need to taste something tropical to lift our moods up.

Travelling Without Leaving, With This Nostalgic Clay Pot Fish Curry

As the weather warms up, I enjoy cooking on my barbecue and the stove top outdoors. I miss cooking outdoors in my clay pots during the winter, since clay pots tend to crack due to extreme temperatures from hot to cold. I cooked this spicy, flavourful fish curry using king fish on my clay pot that I bought last year during our summer vacation to Sri Lanka. It allows me to travel to the flavours that I crave, without packing my bags :) and brings back lots of good memories.
