Exploring Space, Stars and the Moon

ontario science centre space exhibit
In celebration of the 50th anniversary of the first human to step on the moon, the Ontario Science Centre and the Aga Khan Museum have must explore exhibits. During our recent visit to the Ontario Science Centre we explored the space themed exhibitions; Astronaut and Women in Space exhibits. We also learned from The Moon: A voyage through time exhibit at the Aga Khan museum

At the Astronaut exhibit we can discover what it’s like to live like an astronaut, including how to sleep, eat, shower and use the toilet in space! The interactive space shows the challenges in the astronaut training center, experience a rocket launch, investigate life on the Space Lab and learn how to do science in space.

The exhibit relays the physical and psychological effects of living in microgravity on the human body and the technology used to complete a mission.

If you have ever wondered what it is like to live like an astronaut, you'll be surprised and captivated by this absorbing and immersive experience into the importance of science in space and the future of space exploration.

Women in Space showcases the industry's brightest female scientists from Canada and beyond whose work has helped NASA and the Canadian Space Agency. We learned about leading women in the industry, from those involved in deep sea research to deploying advanced telescopes to inventing the BioSuit.

The Moon: A voyage through time exhibit at the Aga Khan museum displays how the moon has inspired generations of people to create art, form beliefs, and strive for scientific understanding.

Interactive devices, displays, and installations let us see and imagine the moon in a new way as it brings together important miniature paintings, scientific instruments, Islamic manuscripts, and contemporary works of art to illustrate the shared wonder of the moon among cultures.

We have explored a variety of space themed DK books over the years. These books have helped us gain a better understanding of space, stars, the moon, and the universe which has made exhibits and our travels more interesting.

We enjoy watching the stars at night and sometimes use the telescope to see deeper, this is one our favourite hobbies especially in the warmer seasons. Last summer, whad a  memorable time at Long Point Eco Adventures at Norfolk county exploring the night sky.

If you want to learn more about stars check out The Stars The Definitive Visual Guide to the Cosmos. This book explores all the marvels of the stars, the Milky Way, and the universe beyond. The book has three dimensional artwork of each constellation and new imagery from the Hubble Space Telescope, ground-based observatories worldwide, and more. The interesting facts in this book is displayed with bright images, diagrams, and it has a simple format which makes it interesting to read and learn from.
