We had a wonderful party to watch A Turtle’s Tale 2 – Sammy Escapes From Paradise with a few friends and family in celebration of its release on July 9th. While enjoying this funny, adventurous family entertainer I served sautéed potatoes, mini chicken pizza, fresh strawberries, popcorn, almond covered chocolates and cupcakes.
The movie is about Sammy & Ray finding themselves trapped in The Tank, an underwater restaurant/aquarium. They hatch a plan to escape and reunite with their grandkids Ricky & Ella. To do this they have to get past Big D and his dopey thugs first. With the help of some unlikely friends, Sammy & Ray find that when you work together anything is possible.
We liked the storyline of the movie, which was funny for both children and adults. One of the things all the adults enjoyed was the different accents that the sea creatures spoke in. We also found the landscape, scenery, the aquarium and the cartoon characters from the movie to be relatable to real life scenes in Dubai. It was ironic how the little seahorse was bossing everyone around inside the aquarium and wasn't really wanting to escape it. In the end he ends up in the small fish tank and wants to escape.
Children were able to relate to the little turtles Ricky and Ella in the story and was afraid of what was going to happen to the sea creatures that got trapped. They also found it hilarious when the seagulls were trying to rescue the turtles and put their dropping all over the fishing boat. We saw the kids jumping out of their seats fearing what the humans would do to the birds that were disturbing them.
We found it interesting to see the perspective of both humans and sea creatures throughout the movie. We rarely think in terms of how the animals would be feeling when we visit the aquariums and exhibitions, so it was interesting to think how they would be feeling which isn't really fun.
I made 24 cupcakes and piped TT2 on each one. I used green and purple to represent the turtles. To make these soft fluffy cupcakes you will need...
1 cup butter
3/4 cup sugar (infused with vanilla)
1 cup flour
2 tsp baking powder
I used this egg separator from Trudeau that makes it easy for me separate lots of eggs within seconds. I like that this gadget allows me to clip the egg separator to my container so it can easily catch the egg whites and hold the egg yolks.
Cream the butter and sugar with a handheld mixer. Then add the egg yolks and cream well. Beat the egg whites separately then add it to the mixture.
Sift the flour with baking powder then add it to the mixture. Fill a muffin pan with 24 mini-cupcakes and bake in 350F preheated oven for about 20 minutes until a skewer inserted in the middle of the cupcake comes out clean.
2 tbsp butter
1 cup icing sugar
1 tbsp milk plus a tsp more if needed
Beat the icing sugar with butter and milk using a handheld mixer until it is smooth and spreadable. Once you have a desired texture add colouring, spread on the cupcakes and pipe it.
