Self Care and Learning from DK books

dk canada books readers
We have been reading a couple of Self Care books from DK Canada - Sleep and Trigger Points. These books have been useful to think of what we should change to better take care of ourselves. My children read a few interesting DK readers - The Story of Civil Rights, I'm an activist, Sports Legends, and Festivals and Celebrations that has lots of useful general knowledge.

A little Book of Self Care Sleep Harness the power of sleep for optimal health and well-being by Petra Hawker shares and reminds that healthy sleep is as important as exercise and diet for total wellness. Poor sleep is linked to obesity, diabetes, cancer, and a shorter life span. It is important to note that different people require different amounts of sleep, and that age and gender play a role in how much sleep we need and when we need it. This book puts sleep in context as one of the foundations for good health and gives more than 50 practical sleep strategies so we can reset our sleep patterns to suit our needs.

The book gives a lot of information and answer questions such as How much sleep do you need at this point in your life? How can you prepare your body and mind for quality sleep? How can you improve your sleep hygiene and set up the right environment for good sleep? What and when should you eat and drink to encourage good sleep? And what do you do when, despite your best intentions, your sleep is disturbed by your newborn baby, stress, shift work, or jet lag? The targeted sleep-promoting meditation, movement, and stress-relief exercises, and strategies in this book are part of a 360-degree approach to sleep. Taking control of our sleep will help us enhance all areas of our life.

A little Book of Self Care Trigger Points Use the power of touch to live life pain free by Amanda Oswald reveals the effectiveness of trigger-point massage to target chronic pain. By locating and manipulating small contraction points of knotted tissue deep within muscle (trigger points), pain elsewhere in the body can be dramatically relieved and controlled. Trigger Points gives us more than 60 step-by step-techniques that you can use at home, with detailed illustrations and accurate, expert advice on placement, pressure, duration, and repetition. Take control of chronic or recurring pain yourself to achieve life-changing results.

We love DK readers because the information is written in an easy to grasp way, and it accompanies photographs to make the reading more interesting. The in-depth information presented through complex sentence structures expand the reader's general knowledge and confidence in reading. The topics are developed through a range of nonfiction presentation styles with quotes, lists, and statistics. My children have been using a variety of these DK titles as reference books for their school assignments.
