DK books on Flora and Fauna

We enjoy books that encourage the love for flora and fauna, as it helps us slow down and be thankful for every creation that is around us. DK books, An Anthology of Intriguing Animals and Smithsonian Flora, would make thoughtful gifts, as it would be appreciated all year round.

An Anthology of Intriguing Animals is a beautiful book that brings to attention over 200 species of animals, insects, and birds. There were a few animals we learned about the first time such as Axolotl, Gila monster, and Slow loris. The colourful book with vibrant pictures, interesting information is something everyone will enjoy.

It was fun for us to learn facts on a variety of animals as we looked through the stunning photographs and fascinating information. This book is a conversation starter....
  • Did you know an elephant can look in the mirror and recognize itself and they never forget.
  • Crocodiles look like they are crying when eating, as the water squeezes out when they bite and some crocodiles can live more than hundred years.
  • Tiny lantern sharks could fit in an adult's hand and glow in the dark.
  • Whale shark is large as a truck and eats nothing bigger than shrimp.
It is fun to read to discover the incredible facts, stories, and myths behind our favourite animals, whether it's how the koala got its name or which animal the Ancient Egyptians thought rolled the sun across the sky.

We really like the gold shine that can be seen when the book is closed, and on the cover. This book would be an attractive gift for families with children who can't get enough of wildlife and nature, this compendium of creatures. With easy-to-read text and large images, An Anthology of Intriguing Animals lets children explore the animal kingdom and get to know each animal individually.
Smithsonian Flora Inside the secret world of plants is a book well suited for anyone that loves flora, as it takes a closer look at familiar and exotic flowers, roots, and leaves. The content of this book is separated to roots, stem and branches, leaves, flowers, seeds and fruits.

It is amazing to see how roots and leaves give food and energy and how they have extraordinary strategies to protect their resources from animals and insects such as some plants have bristles on the stem, thorny branches, and sticky resin. Discover the extraordinary diversity of the plant world and how plants work with this photographic celebration of the trees, flowers, and foliage plants that share our planet.

This book is an elegant introduction to botany with sumptuous photos and crystal-clear illustrations that explain the mechanics of photosynthesis, why leaves change colour, how cacti store water, and how seeds know when to grow. Filled with fascinating stories of how plant roots and leaves communicate with their neighbours and how flowers use colour and scent to interact with and manipulate the creatures around them, Flora is a fresh and engaging introduction to the mysterious inner workings of the plant world.
