Lipikar Supports Children and Families Contest, Coupons and Giveaway

My son’s doctor introduced me to Lipikar Baume AP+ when he was an infant with eczema. We tried many lotions before trying Lipikar, and for all of the other lotions he reacted with redness on his skin, prickly heat like tendencies, and itchy skin. From the time we started using Lipikar Baume AP+ a few years ago, we had to continually use it despite the season. We applied the cream generously everyday to avoid the eczema from coming back. If we neglect to put it on thinking it is all gone, then it would come back, so we have been using it consistently.

I like that Lipikar Baume AP+ is naturally soothing and anti-inflammatory. It helps relieve the itching of extremely dry skin. The texture of the cream is not sticky or oily, and we can put on the clothing without waiting for the cream to absorb into the skin. This texture innovation promotes compliance, as scratching frequency is significantly reduced and patients feel cutaneous comfort on a daily basis.

Going without scratching and being annoyed by the skin condition is very important, as it affects many other things in day-to-day life, such as...
  • 58% of atopic children suffer from disturbed sleep, and this causes children to have problems concentrating at school. 50% of parents believe their child’s academic performance suffers as a result**. This is backed up by many dermatologists who have seen young patients experiencing difficulties at school as well as psychological problems such as stammering or stress due to being teased at school because of their condition.
  • 31% make changes to their daily lives**. It goes without saying that parents focus their attention on the atopic child, sometimes to the expense of siblings. Choosing holiday destinations, foods or pets become problematic issues for the family.
  • 85% find their child’s atopy has a negative impact on their own emotional state***. Parents feel powerless to control their child’s physical and psychological suffering. This feeling of helplessness and exhaustion affects their professional life as well as their relationship with their spouse, resulting in a major impact on their well-being.
Up until now, the various treatments for atopy were first designed to decrease inflammation and eventually reconstitute the skin’s barrier to re-establish its protective function. Today, La Roche-Posay Laboratories demonstrates that simply restoring the skin’s barrier function is not enough to provide long-lasting relief to atopic skin: the microbiome’s balance also needs to be restored. As long as it remains impaired flare-ups of severe dryness, itching and irritation will keep coming back.

Lipi and Kara are two children’s characters created by La Roche-Posay help children understand their atopy and manage it on a daily basis in a fun way. Thanks to step-by-step images, the children can become more autonomous by learning the “8 golden rules of cream application”, a ritual to be followed daily to restore the skin’s comfort.

LIPIKAR launched in January 2012 the brand-new web program “100 families for a better life with eczema” Program to improves daily life for families struggling with atopy. La Roche-Posay provides 100 Canadian families with the complete range of Lipikar products for a year, in addition to giving them access to a dedicated area on a web site where they will find information on atopy and where they can share their experiences with other families. Visit them on 100families.ca to know more about their history.

  12. My youngest son has really bad eczema all over his legs, and I am having a hard time finding a lotion/cream that will actually help. I've tried a dozen different ones in the last year and nothing seems to really help. I would love to try this to see if it would make a difference for him.

  13. My youngest daughter has eczema and it's worse during the school year due to the harsh soap in the school. We had to send in her own soap to prevent her hands from getting so raw they start to bleed. I'm always looking for new products that aren't prescription medication to help with her eczema.
