By the colour of our skin...

Do people treat others differently just because of the colour of the skin?  Does racial prejudice exist in the 21st century when we see intermarriages, immigration and rapid globalization through information technology and the Internet?

There isn't a country in the world that doesn't have a mixture of different people from different cultures, skin tone, religion etc...
Despite all this, we see people are openly and secretively judged by the way they look, the colour of their skin or what they wear or believe in.  An incident caused by one individual impacts against a whole community.  How is it possible that people can be narrow minded and ignorant especially in this day and age!

Coloursim and racial/cultural prejudice happens to all of us with or without knowing.  It doesn't matter if you are black, white, brown, pink, orange or blue it happens!

To eliminate this, schools teach our children about all the prejudice and war that has happened in the past so history doesn't repeat.  There are months dedicated just to talk about these issues i.e. black history month, asian-heritage month etc...  I think it is important that we teach our children as parents that God created everyone differently for a reason and if we all look and act the same way how boring would the world be :)

We know prejudice and discrimination exists because of people's behaviour in our day-to-day lives and in media such as in TV commercials. I think we can make a change by eliminating ignorance within our own families and friends. So take charge and change within your own home on how you see others, eventually the whole world will change. We are all humans that should be the common ground because no one is better or lesser than the other.

  1. Great post! I agree, you can make a difference by eliminating it in your home and encouraging your family to accept others regardless of skin colour. My family is very accepting, and unfortunately, not all families are like that sadly. My husband is Chinese, and although now a days we don't get as many disapproving looks as an interracial couple would have back years ago, trust me....there has still been a few disapproving glances here and there in the 8 years we've been together lol. It's sad, but all we can do is better ourselves and teach our own children to look beyond that and love people for what's inside, and teach them that everyone is beautiful. What makes us unique, make us beautiful. :)
