Home Upgrades on a Budget

focal wall painting
If you are thinking of upgrading your home, but you are on a bit of a budget, then you are not alone. Many people are in the same situation, but if you follow this guide then you will soon find that you can make all of the right changes without breaking the bank.

Refresh your Walls
The first thing you need to try and do is refresh your walls with some new paint. You can give your washed-out walls a lift by simply applying a new coat of paint. The best thing about paint is that it can completely change the way that your home looks and feels, which is major, to say the least. You don't have to be a pro to learn how to paint, but that being said, you have to remember that there is more to painting than just slathering some paint on the walls. You need to make sure to pay attention to the skirting boards and little details. If you can do this, then you should give it a try.

Add a Stair Runner
Another thing you can do is add a stair runner. If you want to get some grip on your slippery stairs, then this is a very low-cost improvement. Many homes have solid wood stairs and although these can look stunning, you have to remember that if you have children, they can easily get slippery. You may find that some spilt orange juice on the stairs can easily be a major hazard, which can be hard to deal with.
Remember that longer runners tend to be more expensive than shorter runners, but one way for you to work around this would be for you to get two shorter runners and then join them together.

Get a Dishwasher
If you want to invest in a family-friendly improvement then why not get a dishwasher? The great thing about getting a dishwasher is that it will help you to conserve water. You can easily get a dishwasher that is energy-efficient, and this can save you up to 500 gallons of water. If you are concerned about the cost of buying a dishwasher and installing it then you have nothing to worry about. You can do it yourself in an afternoon and you don't even need a plumber. This is a great improvement to make if you feel like you are always trying to stay on top of a pile of dirty dishes.

Install a Pool
If you want to take things to the next level, then one thing you can do is install a pool. The great thing about installing a pool is that you can give the whole family a great deal of fun and you can also feel confident knowing that it will add value to your home. If you aren't sure how to make your pool safe for younger kids or if you are concerned about slips and falls then one thing you can do is invest in a rubber pool deck. This is a great investment and you would be surprised at how easy it is to install.

Rewire a Lantern
Hanging lanterns are a great investment, but if you want to save money then you can easily buy a vintage one and then get it rewired - it would be a statement piece for your home, but on a budget. You can rewire the lamp yourself or get an electrician to do it, it would still be cheaper than buying a new fixture.

Of course, if you want to get the best result out of your investment then it is wise to make sure that you look at the style of the home and then make adjustments from there. If your home is quite traditional then investing in a super modern light might not be a good idea, but a traditional lantern or classic stair runner might, so be mindful of this when you make upgrades.
