The All New 2019 Mazda3 Experience

We recently got a chance to experience the all new 2019 Mazda3. Our test vehicle was the Machine Grey Metallic GT Sedan with the Premium package and i-ACTIV AWD. This model's design gives careful consideration for a true driver experience with vastly improved performance, features, and premium materials.

Design of the 2019 Mazda3 sedan is a true beauty. Mazda's Kodo Design concept has been further enhanced and gracefully applied to this car on the exterior as well as the interior. The sleek, long, flat, minimal exterior of the Mazda3 with its stylish blend of curves and lines reflect light and shadow, almost giving it a moving posture even when it's not moving. For a compact sedan, the 2019 Mazda3 has plenty of power with 186 horsepower at its peak. We felt the car picks up pretty fast with ease without vibrations or drag.

The 2019 Mazda3 is the first of its kind to get an all-wheel-drive (AWD) option. Mazda's i-Activ AWD system uses a plethora of sensors, 27 to be exact, to continuously detect changes in acceleration, braking patterns, outside temperatures, steering angles, and windshield wipers. This technology uses these changes to react quickly and distribute power to each wheel when necessary. The system is very effective and we felt we were in control especially at higher speeds, wet conditions, and sharp turns.

The 2019 Mazda3 has a whole new interior to go with the Kodo design. Everything looks stretched, almost horizontal and right at arm's reach in this driver oriented cabin. The center console has been redesigned with the commander control button and armrest moved forward and cupholders positioned at the front.

New to this year's model is a 7inch TFT reconfigurable gauge cluster display and an all new colour Active Driving Display. The Active Driving display is projected directly on the windshield unlike earlier models. This system is less distracting and it seamlessly displays vital information in our line of sight.

The sophistication and premium quality build of the interior is noticeable. There is a mix of leather, brushed aluminum, and fabric in this stylish interior. The inner center armrest slides back rather than flipping upwards to reveal the storage underneath; we found it takes a little bit of getting used to.

The main feature in the center is the 8.8inch ultra-wide high resolution display. At first, it felt like a wide, stretched screen but it has been strategically placed in such a way it blends into the cockpit and is slanted towards the driver.

This touchless display is easy to control using the Mazda Commander switch. Although, entering text into the system feels longer without a touchscreen, the system is quick to predict addresses and street names. The Mazda Connect infotainment system has also been updated with newer graphics and a simplified menu.

There is a multitude of connectivity features such as Apple CarPlay®, Android Auto®, and on the GT Premium package - a complimentary 5 year subscription for SiriusXM Traffic Plus and Travel Link services has been included.
Mazda has gone through great lengths to reduce sound and vibration inside the interior. The headliner has a sound absorbing design and there is an added fiber insulation material between the carpeting and the floor to minimize sound. This design keeps out the outside noise and vibrations when listening to music on the 12 speaker Bose ® premium sound system securely placed in the front cowl.

The 2019 Mazda3, in its premium package is loaded with the latest tech found in the CX range. The GT model also includes all the Mazda i-Activesense technology with added support when reversing with the Smart Brake Support Rear and Rear crossing for automatically braking when sensing an object. Other safety features include the addition of knee airbags in addition to the regular airbags for the driver and passenger.

Rear passenger seats are very comfortable. They are placed at a comfortable angle eliminating the need to lean forward too much to see the road. We felt that the leg room could have been extended for longer drives. There are no dials for the rear passengers to control the Climate control system or USB ports for charging accessories. The rear seats have a 60/40 split fold down option for carrying long cargo.

The all new 2019 Mazda3 is a true beauty that proves luxury looks and premium features can be had for a competitive price.

  8. Beautiful sleek car with lots of great features! I think my family might be a bit too big for it though! My husband is 6 foot 4 and I'm almost 6 feet tall, and we have two tall kids, so we usually do better in an SUV.
