Poppy Flower Inspired Fabric Painted Cushion Cover

Poppy Flower Inspired Fabric painting Cushion Cover
Fabric painting is a fun technique to use on clothes to add unique designs. For this cushion cover project, I chose to do a bright poppy flower inspired cover.

For this project, I used

pencil, fabric paint marker, fabric paint
paint brush
cardboard
cloth for cushion cover
cushion insert
sewing machine

Before starting the project place a cardboard under the cloth. This will give a sturdy surface to work on and make it easy when painting.

First, draw a sketch with a pencil on the cloth. You can use a fabric marker and draw over the sketch so you know what colours you plan to use. Then using the paint, create the effects you want, I did some layering so the petals feel natural.

Let the fabric paint dry completely, it usually dries fast within an hour or less depending on how thick the paint is. This maybe different depending on factors such as the paint brand, humidity etc.

Once the paint is dry, you can sew the cushion cover. Here is a tutorial on how to sew cushion covers easily at home.

For the poppy flowers, I used a variety of colours such as orange, yellow, red, and black fabric paint. For the leaves, I used the same dark green but for different tones such as the lighter tone I mixed a little water, and for the dark tones I used the green paint a little thicker.

  1. Cute! I've been experimenting with chalk paint, and I know some people have used it to paint upholstery. I'm not quite that brave, but I might start with a cushion.

This looks really good and I love how bright it is. You're obviously really creative because I wouldn't have been able to pull something like that off. Great job!
