Improving Curb Appeal with Renfrew Blue Fusion

Renfrew Blue Fusion paint door
We have a four panel steel door for our main entrance. Although it was already primed when we purchased it, it had never been painted over. Since the door was off colour and looked dull we decided to give it a fresh coat of paint. We decided on using the beautiful green-blue shade of Renfrew Blue Fusion paint for the outer part of our front door to enhance the curb appeal.

We used the Casement white fusion paint for the interior of the door. This Renfrew Blue looks great with yellows, reds, and grey. We were able to paint the door within a few hours and between coats and prep it was a one day job. Painting the steel-door was easy and fun with Fusion mineral paint.

Since it wasn't practical for us to remove the whole door to paint it, before painting we only removed the hardware - the door locks and handle. The door had some rough edges on the borders of the panels so we decided to give it a light sanding. The overall surface of the door was in good condition. Since there was dust and dirt we gave the door a scrub using some T.S.P. (tri-sodium phosphate) added with water. After the surface was completely dry, it was time to paint.

We initially decided to use a small foam roller thinking it would go on the surface smoothly, but after painting one panel we stopped using it right away. We decided to use a regular angled brush instead. We wanted the door to have an appearance of a wooden door after we painted. We painted the panels first with the direction of the door's natural design. Since we didn't want the paint marks to show, we left a wet edge and then continued overlapping each edge. We decided to go with 2 coats of fusion paint.

Although the Fusion paint took less than an hour to dry we gave about 2 hours between each coat. After the first coat we also removed the painters tape we initially put around the arched glass pattern, since the tape peeled the paint a bit we touched it up using a small brush. Once the final coat was put all the blemishes went away. We did the same with the interior of the door by giving it two coats of Casement Fusion paint.

We put the clear Fusion sealer top coat to the interior and exterior of the door, which gave the door a brighter finished look. Overall we are happy with the final results. Depending on the light and shade the colour looks different in the pictures.

We have used Fusion™ for several of our other projects, and we find that it is easy to work with and the results are spectacular. We like that we can use the paint safely for all our outdoor and indoor projects because it is environmentally safe and does not contain toxins such as VOC's, ammonia or formaldehyde. This matte finish 100% acrylic paint is durable, and the easy one-step self-leveling application and adhesion and strength makes it our go to paint. Fusion paints can be purchased online and in independent stores across Canada and the United States for SRP $24.99/pint (500mL) that covers about 75 sq.ft or 7 m2.

  4. Love this. I have a bit of a thing for teal and turquoise. So this is right up my alley. I make my own chalk paint (I've repainted an armoire, dresser, and several smaller pieces). Will definitely keep an eye out for this brand.
