The Art of Pysanky Displaying Creativity on Eggs

pysanky
Few years ago for the first time I tried the beautiful art of Pysanky. I like how this art gives us a different canvas to work on - eggs! And how it requires us to display patience and give a little bit of thought in to how we want the colours to show as we work with a variety of special dyes and layers of wax. I am excited that we can now purchase the unique line of essential tools and supplies for this art that are made in made in Canada easily from Ukrainian Egg-Cessories.

I find Pysanky to be a satisfying, relaxing art that is lots of fun to do any time of the year with friends and family or by ourself. My children and I have been decorating a few eggs and have been feeling satisfied with the results, while we enjoy admiring the beautiful egg art done by Pysanky artists so we can achieve those results.

Ukrainian Egg-Cessories has five different kits we can choose from such as the Beginner Kit, Student kits, Advanced Student Kit, Teacher Kit, and Family and Friends Kit. We have been using the Advanced Student Pysanky Kit that has:
  • full set of dyes (13 colours)
  • a set of 3 candle Kistky (fine/medium/heavy)
  • 2 packages of black beeswax (22g each)
  • Pysanky Party booklet
  • cleaning wire

Once we take the time to learn how to write Pysanky (Ukrainian Easter Eggs) a whole new world of art, meditation, and expression opens up. The "Advanced Student Pysanky Kit" gives us the opportunity to play around different thicknesses of wax lines as the kit includes three different tipped traditional candle kistky - Fine, Medium and Heavy, along with enough wax to make a dozen eggs.

I like that the dyes ones mixed with water and a tablespoon of vinegar can be kept in jars for years. This allows us to do this craft anytime.

All Kistky manufactured and sold by Ukrainian Egg-Cessories have a unique "stainless steel pen tip" designed by Michael and Gloria Olynyk that does not wear out when writing pysanky on egg shells. I really like the barrel part of the Kistka in which the wax is placed, as it is easy to fill and heat up without worrying about the wooden handle getting burnt. I found the wax flowed easily when it was heated.

We found the handle of the Kistka comfortable, and it feels like holding a pencil, which made it easy to draw the designs. Beeswax that the kit includes is the only kind of wax that sticks to the egg shell and has the high melting point that melts cleanly in the Kistka without any smoke and helps make the constant smooth lines. We found the Pysanky Party booklet that comes with the kit useful as it gives instructions and tips from start to finish, so we can enjoy this art.

Once we finished removing the wax, we used a drill and made a small hole on the bottom and top of the egg to remove the insides of the egg, so the decorated shell will last longer.

I think with the right supplies, Ukrainian Easter Eggs can be created by anyone. I am glad that it is now easily accessible to purchase online at Ukrainian Egg-Cessories so we can enjoy the art of Pysanky.
