Having clean air to breathe in our car is as important as clean air in our home. A lot of people take this for granted and you will be surprised how dirty the air is inside our cars if we fail to change the cabin air filter in our vehicles. Since we will be spending a lot of time in our cars traveling this summer, it is vital to have clean fresh air inside the cabin.

Changing the cabin air filter isn't complicated! It is an easy do-it-yourself project that takes up less than fifteen minutes and will help you save money and the hassle of going to the mechanic, especially during these times. A majority of cars have a replaceable cabin air filter, though not all do. Check your vehicle's owner's manual if you are not sure if your vehicle has one.

Our family car does have a cabin air filter, but I was not certain the last time that it had been replaced. I wanted to change the cabin air filter in our vehicle because it helps filter outside air that flows through the vehicles ventilation system that can expose passengers to contaminants. We decided to install a FRAM® Fresh Breeze Cabin Air Filter. This cabin air filter is known to filter up to 98% of dust, pollen, and other contaminants ranging in size of 5 to 100 microns, keeping the air we breathe clean. FRAM® has a history of expertise in filtration, so I knew this was the brand we wanted to use. It has Arm & Hammer which helps prevent musty odours from forming inside vehicles and helps to keep the vehicle smelling fresh. FRAM® Fresh Breeze Cabin Air Filters are available at Canadian Tire and Part Source retail locations in-store or online.

Installation instructions are included in every box along with a QR code that takes you to installation videos on your mobile device. Here is a tutorial that will help you see how easy it is to replace the cabin air filter.  Even the most basic DIY'er can do it!

First, check this website and put in your vehicle's year, make, model, trim, and it will tell which filter fits into your vehicle. The size of the filter is different depending on model and type of vehicle. So, make sure you have the exact model number that fits.

The most common location of the cabin air filter in a vehicle is behind the glovebox. It is easy to remove the glovebox if you follow the instructions on the video. Then remove the old filter and replace it with the new one, and re-attach the glovebox.

Now you are all set! Each cabin air filter gives two years of protection, however we change ours depending on how much we have driven and how dirty the filter is, in order to keep the air inside our vehicle fresh.
