Beauty of Canadian Wildlife in Winter at Parc Omega

parc omega in winter
Once you discover the fun at Parc Omega, you will want to visit every season and multiple times too, as it is very exciting for the entire family. Since the first time we stayed over and explored Parc Omega, we visited it again in the summer, and promised ourselves to check its beauty in winter.

During our trip to check out the Winterlude, we made time to drive about an hour from Ottawa to enjoy a few hours at the park.

We totally recommend everyone to see the park in winter to appreciate the majestic fauna at its finest in the Canadian winter scenery.

The same animals we saw in summer were completely transformed because of their winter coats and beautiful thick fur. Nature is amazing!

Some animals such as the wolves were a different colour compared to when we saw them in the summer. As their breeding season is in February, we could see the changes in animal behaviour.

It was amazing to see the different shapes and sizes of antlers, which look different from our visit in the summer when we saw the velvet in their antlers. Now the antlers resemble wood, and in some of the animals the antlers have already shed since the breeding season has ended.

The antlers that fall in the park grounds is used to make beautiful chandeliers, door handles, and hooks, which is displayed in different areas of the park. It is nice to see the antlers being repurposed in creative ways.

There were lots of wild boars in different sizes running around, and coming close to the cars to get the carrots.

This is not an albino, rather a variety of deer called the white deer! Doesn't he look cute?

Even in winter, we are able to feed carrots to a variety of caribou and deer as they come close to our vehicle. Bring your own carrots or purchase them at the Park house gift shop, which also has lots of beautiful souvenirs. There is a restaurant to purchase meals, coffee or snacks while enjoying the view of the lake. It is fun to watch the birds, as we enjoy the meal.

It was interesting to watch this arctic animal, the musk ox, especially when the female musk ox was in control nudging the bull to move, as it still had its sharp curved antlers while the male musk ox had already shed his.

We also got to see beautiful bison, as some were sitting around and relaxing.

Look how cute the arctic fox look in their white coats for seasonal camouflage.

Although, the bears were hibernating we can see the footprints they have made to their dens, as they sometimes come out.

The Rocky mountain goats looked beautiful and comfortable in their natural environment high up the mountain.

  • Horse drawn sleigh ride in the trails of the Land of Pioneers.
  • Visit the Old Farm where the farm animals live.

The pictures do not justify how amazing Parc Omega looks. It is a wonderful way to see Canadian wildlife from all over Canada in their natural habitat. Parc Omega is open all year long so we can see how the flora and fauna change each season.

They also have a variety of accommodations mostly in the summer, however a couple of cabins are open for the winter where you get to sleep while the wolves are watching you, how cool is that!

  11. This is really neat. I live in the Yukon so many of these animals I see in the wild on a fairly regular basis - my hubby came across a heard of about 50 caribou yesterday - they were on the highway! Sheep and bison are common as well. If I'm ever in Ottawa again, I'd love to visit this park.
