Stories of Migration by Women from Around the World book giveaway

stories of migration by women
The most recent anthology I have been reading is an inspiring and timely collection of stories about migration, written from the perspective of twenty women. Somewhere Stories of Migration by Women from Around the World edited by Lorna Jane Harvey brings a refreshing and uniting voice to this compelling and trending topic of migration.

For the most part migration has been positive for human development. Unfortunately, many people that migrate have no choice but to leave their homes due to force displacement be it war, human rights abuse, natural disasters, political and economic factors and more. Migration by choice or force is not an easy journey as many learn to adjust while facing discrimination and exploitation as they adapt to a new way of life.

The stories in this book show how much migration shakes a person to their core and the amount of courage and resilience needed to go through it, adjust to it or maybe overcome it. Lorna Jane Harvey was inspired to compile this anthology as the personal experiences of many women remain silent, and this book is a window to personal experiences that gives hope, encourage, and inspire.

The implications of migration, especially for women, are often unknown, unheard, unspoken. From the fleeing refugee to the political and economic migrant, a broad range of migration by people of many cultures, ethnicities, and beliefs is shared in this book. Identity, belonging, assimilation and alienation are some of the key topics in this sometimes sad but also joyful book. Treasures of wisdom and heartfelt honesty are found in the stories.

The book gives the reader hope, encouragement, or insight into a globally relevant subject on a personal level rather than through distant, abstract news stories. I like that this book encourages open-mindedness and is filled with stories that has a strong impact on the reader.
