Sewing a Zipper Pouch

zipper pouch sewing DIY
This zipper pouch we sewn using our Brother sewing machine. It is a convenient way to store our game pieces in one easy to access place. Follow these steps and make your own zippered pouch to store anything you want.

I haven't provided the measurements for the cloth as it can be manipulated according to your need.

For this project you will need...
material to make the pouch
zipper to fit one opening of the pouch
thread
pins
sewing machine

First cut the material to your desired size. We measured the length of our Rummikube stands for the length and width we wanted and added a couple of inches extra for seam allowance on both sides.
Next, we pinned the zipper to one side of the material with the right side facing up and the open zipper placed in the inside. Opening the zipper allows to easily pin the zipper. Then use the sewing machine sew the zipper with the right side of the material facing up.

Complete the other three sides of the pouch by sewing all the sides. For the edges, I made a diagonal stitch and cut off the excess. When the pouch is turned to the right side facing out put a pencil and push the bottom corners of the pouch to shape it.

For this pouch we curved the sides a little when sewing to give it a shape on the wider side of the pouch. You can also sew the sides straight or use your imagination and make different shapes. Insert your belonging and zip it up. This project is easy for beginners to try as well.

  11. I love this idea, and so will my older daughter! She just took home ec for the first time (she's 11) and she LOVED sewing (and cooking) and wants to bring out my machine at home so she can do projects at home. This is a perfect one for her! She has an entrepreneurial fair coming up at school in February, and I think she'd love this as an idea to sell!
