Eyewitness Explorer books are easy to read, fun guides that are geared for children. However, children and adults will enjoy reading and learning from these books. Eyewitness Explorer books encourage hands-on learning.

These books have activities children can do at home such as making a bird bath, birdfeeders, ponds, and more that will help them observe, explore, and learn about the natural world. The books have step-by-step, photographically illustrated instructions that explains the science behind the activities and lay the essential groundwork for contextualizing the experience to come.

The Eyewitness Explorer: Nature Ranger teaches us about nature and the creatures around us. It helps children become wildlife detective as they do hands-on learning with activities such as watching and studying seeds grow into flowers, following animal trails and more.

In Eyewitness Explorers: Bird Watcher gives an insight into the world of birds and how we can be Ornithologists. Bird watching is a fun and exciting hobby that we enjoy especially when the weather is warm. Observing the birds using telescopes and binoculars, and taking pictures without frightening them are fun activities that everyone in our family partakes.

Did you know?
  • Birds carry eggs instead of babies like mammals because it is easier for the mothers to not have to carry their young around.
  • The shape of the beak varies according to what the birds eat. For example, hummingbirds have straw like beaks, owl's beak looks like a hook, seedeaters like goldfinch have sharp point and strong edges.
  • The eyes of the birds are set on each side to let them see all around, and they have sharper eyesight to spot insects.
  • Birds eat their food whole and cough up dry pellets.
  • Flying styles of each bird is different.
bottle birdfeeder
We made this bottle birdfeeder inspired by this book that helps us to help birds; especially in winter when it is hard for birds to find food.

Windows can confuse birds, so help save the birds from getting hurt by making a warning sign by drawing an owl face on paper and sticking it on the inside of the glass. This will help them steer clear.

Bird watching is something you can do anywhere. This relaxing hobby is a fun way to enjoy the beauty and uniqueness of birds.
