It’s Ramadan!

It's Ramadan Curious George
It's Ramadan, Curious George by Hena Khan and illustrated by Mary O'Keefe Young is a child-friendly book that summarizes Ramadan and Eid-ul-fitr (festival after the completion of Ramadan) beautifully.

My children enjoyed reading this book and relating to their knowledge and experience of Ramadan. This book gives a peek into the lives of those who follow Islam, and what happens during this special month as Muslims around the world fast from dawn to dusk, how the day feels, the early morning meal, about the time of breaking fast and dinnertime, sharing and helping the needy known as Zakat or charity (a pillar in Islam), spotting the new moon and celebrating after a month of fasting, and giving gifts.

Summary of the book…
It's the first day of Ramadan, and George is celebrating with his friend Kareem and his family. George helps Kareem with his first fast and joins in the evening celebration of tasting treats and enjoying a special meal. Then, George helps make gift baskets to donate to the needy, and watches for the crescent moon with the man in the yellow hat. Finally, George joins in the Eid festivities to mark the end of his very first Ramadan.

This book is a wonderful way to introduce Ramadan to children of all faith, as it will increase their knowledge of other cultures and religious practices. It's Ramadan, Curious George would make a beautiful gift for all Curious George Fans, as they will be able to relate to their experiences. We can purchase this tabbed board book on Amazon or at bookstores.
