Exploring Halton Parks: Crawford Lake, Hilton Falls and Kelso

By staying at Toronto West KOA, my family and I were able to explore three different Halton Parks that is in the Halton Hills, Milton, and Campbellville area. We enjoy exploring conservation areas and appreciate what they do to preserve the natural beauty.
We went to Crawford Lake to explore the 15th century Iroquoian village. This is a wonderful way to teach children about history and to learn about the rich and diverse cultures of the First Peoples who lived in Canada, and what Archaeologists do.
Archaeological investigation at Crawford Lake began in 1972, and they have discovered more than 10,000 artifacts that have allowed them to better understand the culture and lifestyle of people who lived there. It was wonderful to see the inside of three Longhouses, one has been fully reconstructed and furnished, and the other two have been partially rebuilt.
We enjoyed canoeing during our visit to Kelso because of the calm lake. Children loved playing in the beach.
I love the clearly marked trails at the parks, which is easy to follow with the little ones. We hiked the 4 km Hilton Falls Trail to see the beautiful, scenic 10 metre Hilton falls.
We also enjoyed getting close to the falls, getting wet, and going behind the falls during our visit; this part is at your own risk so when you are there if you choose to go behind the falls be careful with the slippery rocks :)
Our most memorable activities during our exploration of this region is getting close to the falls and canoeing at Kelso.  There are seven parks that we can enjoy in the area. If you visit the parks on the same day, you can use the same admission.
