Making a Newborn quilled card and Learning About Making Greeting Cards

The encyclopedia of Greeting Card, Tools and Techniques by Susan Pickering Rothamel is a valuable inspiring reference book for those who enjoy paper crafts. The book has definitions and descriptions of important greeting card terms, tools, materials, and techniques. In addition to techniques there are colourful photographs of greeting cards, step-by-step pictures of the techniques, quotes, sentiments, list of holidays around the world and more. This book has featured techniques by card makers, enthusiastic crafters, artists and designers.
I enjoy giving and receiving greeting cards, and think getting a personalized handmade card makes it even more special.

Having an orderly process to store cards is important; here are some organizing tips for cards from the book.
  • Store new and handmade greeting cards in an expandable file or box with dividers.
  • Label the dividers such as by occasion or month
  • Keep a monthly holiday or birthday tracking calendar on the front of each divider and make cards in advance and store them
  • Store return address labels and postage stamps in the front most pocket
  • Keep an address book in the front of the file
I am excited to have learned about many different methods of card making from this book and look forward to trying a few of the techniques over time such as Accordion Folding, Appliqué, Batik, Bargello, Bleach, Quilled and more.
This Newborn quilled card is inspired by this book. To make this you will need...
quilling paper
10 tight rolled coil
4 curved teardrop shapes
Construction paper
Black pen to write the message
Ribbon paper or cloth
craft tissue paper
a blank tri-fold circle card
slotted quilling tool
glue
scissors

I placed a craft tissue paper from the inside of the blank tri-fold circle card, and glued the fold so the craft tissue paper is not visible.
I made 10 tight rolled coils using slightly different measurements of quilling paper for each of the toes. Look at the picture closely to do the 4 different curved teardrop shapes for the feet.
I wrote and decorated the "congratulations" message on a construction paper and glued it to the front of the card. I used a paper ribbon and made a bow, then glued it to the top of the card.
