Quilled Birthday Card Cupcake with a Candle: Project from Pretty Quilled Cards book

Quilling, also known as paper filigree is an addictive fun craft that I started a few years ago, and have enjoyed making cards, frames, used it in decorating notebooks, and more. Most of the time, when I do quilling I quill the paper into circle shapes and then make different shapes using my fingers.
When I got a chance to look through Cecelia Louie's Pretty Quilled Cards book I saw a different, fun technique of using the quilling paper. In Cecelia's book she uses the quilling paper to make exaggerated spirals and dynamics, giving quilling projects a different look.
The author in the introduction of the book mentions the quilling basics, the supplies needed, information on the tools, explains techniques and gives tips. The 26 different projects such as cards for many occasions, gift tags, cupcake toppers and more are marked with up to 5 coloured rating scale to show the skill level; 1 coloured circle being easy and 5 being advanced.
The author provides actual size cutting guides, so we can get the correct lengths of the paper to help get the shapes accurate and to get our designs look similar to the projects in the book.
The exact length we need to cut the paper and the pencil lines on where to fold and glue are clearly illustrated and mentioned, making it easy to follow and replicate the beautiful quilling projects.
The author has also given the background accents such as designs and embellishments that we can copy on to our card stock. I like that this unique style and appealing colour palette gives the quilled cards a fresh and modern look.
The step-by-step instructions with pictures helped me make this birthday card cupcake with a candle.
For this project, I used...
Needle & Slotted Quilling Tool
White glue
Tweezer
Card
Pencil
Paper to trace and transfer
Colour pencil
