Making flatbread

Making flatbread is easy and lots of fun.
For the dough you need...
1 cup whole wheat or atta flour
1/4 tsp salt
water

Mix the flour and salt with the water just enough to make a soft smooth dough. You might need some help to bring the dough together from an adult and then you can knead the dough.
Make balls the size of a golf ball or smaller and flatten it with a rolling pin.

Getting children involved in making flatbread is a fun activity, which also benefits them developmentally.
This part if you are not old enough to be at the cooker ask an adult for help.

Heat a flat pan, like a griddle or an omelette pan. When it is hot put the rolled roti one at a time and cook for a minute or two until you see the colour changing slightly and bubbles appear. Can press with a back of a spatula a little to make the rotis puff a little.

Then flip the roti and cook the other side for another minute till it is a light golden in colour. Make all the rotis the same way and eat warm with your favourite jam or curry.

  2. This looks beautiful! We have a similar dish - we put mashed potatoes with onion inside and a little bit of melted butter - it will be great!!!
